We donned the same outfits then. Thanks, Mom! |
Do you know what day it is today? It's Thursday! And it's time for #ThrowbackThursday or #TBT. So every Thursday, i'll try to share a photo that reminds me of my/our childhood.
I was about 11 years old in that picture, right at the stage of my puberty. That was taken during the summer, before we left the house for the mall. My sister and I used to wear the same clothes when we were kids. Our photos can attest that we dressed alike then. We had the same t-shirts, bathing suits, pants, shorts, shoes, everything. It was my mom's way of telling the world that we are her daughters. It even came in handy one day because when my sister got lost in the mall when she was about 3, my mom grabbed me and told the security that my sister was wearing the some clothes that I had on.
And that skin color! Arrrggghh how can you miss that? I was the negra of the ball! I was the neighborhood baluga(an impolite term for Aeta)! I was really dark because I was always out and about. I was called alkitran (tar) by my relatives at some point! I could spend 10 hours under the sweltering heat playing piko, football, agawang base, taguan, hanging by the basketball court to watch a game or swim at the clubhouse pool. I can vividly remember a time when my yaya had to run after me just to slather my skin with Jergens whitening lotion. There was also a time when I was prohibited to go out of the house for having kuto (lice) because of my overexposure to the sun. My mom feared that I might spread it to someone and be talked about for having it because uuuggghhh yeah, nakakahiya nga naman, diba?! Too much info!
Oh well.. Those were the days. By the way, have you been eating? Sorry if you somehow lost your appetite there.
Stay Happy and please resume eating,
Khaye :)
